Warmer Floors

Floor Insulation in Bristol

Bristol's older houses lose serious heat through bare suspended floors. We lift the boards, insulate underneath and put everything back tight.

What You'll Pay - No Hidden Costs

We quote per floor after seeing it, and the price covers everything: lifting the boards without wrecking them, the insulation itself, and relaying the floor so it sits tight and flat again. No extras appear on the invoice that were not on the quote.

Lifting a hundred-year-old floor is the risky part of this job. Done carelessly it splits boards and costs you the originals. We take the time to do it properly, and that is what you are paying for.

Quoted Once, Done Once The price includes lifting, insulating and relaying. Your original boards go back down, not in a skip.

What to Expect

1
Check what is under thereWe look at the void depth, airflow and any damp signs before recommending anything. Insulation done wrong traps moisture, so this step is not optional.
2
Lift the boards carefullyBoards come up numbered and intact. Original Victorian pine is worth protecting, and we treat it that way.
3
Insulate between the joistsBreathable insulation fitted snug between the joists with the airflow under the floor preserved, so the timber stays dry.
4
Relay and finishEvery board back in its place, fixed down tight, no new creaks. If the floor is being sanded too, this is where the two jobs meet.

FAQ - Floor Insulation

A lot in the right house. Suspended timber floors over a cold void are one of the biggest heat losses in Bristol's older housing stock. Rooms feel noticeably warmer underfoot and draughts through the boards stop.
That is the point of using us. Boards are lifted carefully, numbered and relaid in place. The odd board that is already split gets repaired or matched, and we tell you as we go.
Not when the airflow under the floor is kept clear and the right breathable materials are used. We check the void and the air bricks before quoting, and we will not fit insulation somewhere it would cause a problem.
Yes, and it is the best time to do it. The boards are already up, so insulating first and sanding after gives you a warm floor and a new finish in one visit.
